Health and safety support in Oxfordshire

Keep your business legal without drowning in paperwork.

Every employer in Oxfordshire has the same legal duties: assess the risks to your people, put sensible controls in place and appoint a competent person to help you do it. For most small and medium-sized businesses, that doesn’t need a full-time health and safety manager. It needs someone experienced who can visit, get to know how you work and keep you on track.

That’s what we do. Whether you run a workshop in Banbury, an office in Oxford, a warehouse near the M40 or a construction site in Didcot, we’ll look at what you actually do, tell you honestly what needs attention and help you fix it. Our risk assessments, policies and fire risk assessments are written for your site, not copied from a template.

Because we’re based in Bicester, we’re close by when you need a site visit, and for larger projects we bring in trusted specialist associates, so you get the right expertise without the overheads. Not sure where to start? Book a free review or try our 5-minute self-check.

Questions

Health and safety in Oxfordshire: common questions

Do I need a health and safety consultant?

The law requires every employer to appoint one or more competent people to help them meet their health and safety duties (Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999). That can be you or a member of staff if you have the right knowledge and experience. Many small and medium-sized businesses in Oxfordshire choose an external consultant instead, because it’s simpler and usually cheaper than employing someone.

Which areas do you cover?

All of Oxfordshire, including Oxford, Bicester, Banbury, Witney, Abingdon, Didcot, Kidlington, Thame, Wantage, Carterton, Chipping Norton and Henley-on-Thames. We also work across Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire, and on rail projects UK-wide.

Do I need a written health and safety policy?

If you employ five or more people, yes. You must have a written health and safety policy and record the significant findings of your risk assessments. With fewer than five employees you still need to assess the risks, but you don’t have to write everything down. We can write or review your policy so it reflects how your business actually works.

Does my fire risk assessment need to be written down?

Yes. Since 1 October 2023, every business covered by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 must record its fire risk assessment in full, whatever its size. It should be reviewed regularly and whenever something significant changes, such as a new layout or a change of use.

How much does it cost?

It depends on your site and what you need, so we give you a fixed price in writing before any work starts. Ongoing support is on a monthly partnership agreement, so you know exactly what you’ll pay. The first conversation is free: book a free review or use the enquiry form below.

Can you help with CHAS, SafeContractor or SSIP?

Yes. We help contractors prepare the policies, risk assessments and evidence that accreditation schemes such as CHAS, SafeContractor and other SSIP members ask for, and we can review your submission before it goes in.
