What the law expects for screen users.
The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 apply to workers who use a screen daily, for continuous periods of an hour or more. That includes people working from home, hybrid workers and hot-deskers.
Assess workstations
Assess each user’s workstation and reduce the risks you find. Review it when things change or someone reports discomfort.
Plan breaks
Plan work so users get breaks or changes of activity away from the screen.
Eye tests
Arrange and pay for an eye test when a user asks, and pay for basic glasses if they’re needed specifically for screen work.
Training and information
Give users training and information on setting up and using their workstation safely.
This self-assessment covers the training and set-up part and gives you a record. Anything your team flags still needs following up by someone competent.
Let our consultants help you get it right.
We carry out DSE workstation assessments, follow up the problems your team finds, and help you set up a simple, proportionate process for office, home and hybrid workers.
